SUGGESTIONS AND OFFERING

Hi everyone I will give an explanation of suggestions and offering

1. Asking for Suggestions
there are many expressions that can be used to ask for suggestion. one way to do this is to use the word "shall", which means next.

shall I / We + verb 1

examples :
·         shall we go home early?
·         shall i apologize to her?
·         shall i get a new job?
·         what shall i say to my parents?

In addition to the example of answering above using the word "shall", another example of answering to ask for suggestion is:

·         should i go to the clinic?
·         what should i do?
·         do you have any suggestion?
·         what do you recommend?
·         do you have any idea?

2. Giving Suggestions
One way to give advice is to use the word "cloud" which means can / can or "might" which means allowed

examples:

  • you cloud go home early
  • you cloud find
In addition to the example expressions above we can also use various other expressions such as:

you should + verb 1

examples :
·         you should see the doctor
·         you should finis your job immediately

3. Accepting a Suggestions
When we agree and accept the advice given by someone we can say:

·         sounds great
·         sounds good to me
·         that's a good idea
·         let's do that
·         i'm up for it

4. Decline a Suggestions
when we disagree and think the advice given is not good enough, we can say:

·         maybe some other time
·         i don't think it's good idea
·         i'm not sure about that

5. Giving Offer
some examples of expressions provide offers that we can use as follows:

would you like + noun / infinitive

examples :
·         would you like a glass of orange juice?
·         would you like to go to the cinema with me?

example provides another offer:
·         can / may i help you?
·         what can i do for you?
·         may i give you a ride?
·         do you want more coffee?

6. Accepting an Offer
If we want to accept someone's offer we can say:

·         yes, i'd love to
·         sure, thank you
·         yes please, thank you
·         that's very kind of you
·         that would be very nice

7. Decline an Offer
When we reject an offer, someone refuses us gently and politely. for example we can say:

·         thank you for your kindness, but i can handle it
·         i'm sorry i can't
·         thank you, but i'm not hungry/thirsty
·         no, but thank you fo the offer.

example dialogue about suggestion:

Danu: What should we have for lunch?
Ical: We could try the new pasta at the Pasta House.
Danu: I don’t feel like eating pasta.
Ical: How about we order chicken curry instead?
Danu: That sounds delicious.
Ical: All right then, chicken curry is it.
Danu: Please make mine spicy.
Ical: Okay.

conclusion:

We could try the new pasta at the Pasta House. (Giving Suggestion)
I don’t feel like eating pasta. (Decline Suggestion)

example dialogue about offering:

Danu: Have you heard that the due date for the final project is extended?
Ical: No, is it true?
Danu: Yes. It will be due next month.
Ical: That’s wonderful! I haven’t even started yet.
Danu: Would you need my help?
Ical: No, thanks. I’ll do it as soon as possible. I know that you’re as busy as I am.
Danu: Okay. Just let me know if you need my help.

conclusion:

Would you need my help? (Giving Offer)
No, thanks. I’ll do it as soon as possible. I know that you’re as busy as I am. (Decline Offer)
