Ki Hajar Dewantara was born with the name Raden Mas (R.M.) Suwardi Suryaningrat. He was born on Thursday Legi, May 2, 1889 in Yogyakarta. Ki Hajar Dewantara came from the noble Puro Pakualaman Yogyakarta family. His father was Kanjeng Pangeran Ario (K.P.A.) Suryaningrat and his mother was Raden Ayu (R.A.) Sandiah. K.P.A.
